Bhavnagar: 30 killed in Truck accident going for marriage party
Today As many as 30 people were killed and several others were injured when a truck carrying a marriage party fell down a bridge into gorge near Ranghola village of Bhavnagar district Rajkot-Bhavnagar state highway. Police said the marriage party was on their way from Anida village of Palitana taluka of Bhavnagar to Tatam village in Gadhda taluka of neighbouring Botad district. However, the truck in which the party was travelling fell down a bridge near Ranghola at around 7:30 pm.
26 people died on the spot in the accident whereas 4 persons died during treatment.
Bhavnagar district collector said the injured had been rushed to hospitals in nearby Timbi village and Bhavnagar city in Sir T hospital.
Truck driver lost his control due to drowsiness, leading to the accident and truck fell into a rivulet, around 20-feet deep where there was layer of cement.
Gujarat CM and PM Narendra modi has expressed sorrow over the tragic incident.
Gujarat government has announced ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakhs to the victim of truck accident. Also, expense of treatment will be borne by the government.
Gujarat BJP chief Jitu Vaghani and minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma will go to Bhavnagar, to review situation.
