Construction work of country’s longest extradosed bridge over Narmada river near Bharuch on National Highway No. 8 has reached its final stage. It will be open to public by December 2016 and resolve traffic problems on Ahmedabad Mumbai road sector. 68 % of project work is completed. It will be a four-lane bridge and would entail an expenditure of Rs 379 crore. An extradosed bridge employs a structure that is frequently described as a cross between a girder bridge and a cable-stayed bridge. It is 1344 meter long.The work has been allotted to L&T company. The bridge will have 10 spans and will be around 1.4 km in length. The bridge will have stay cables as a part of the extradosed structural system.The bridge was approved in 2011. Congress leader Ahmed Patel from Bharuch too played a part in getting the project approved.
The bridge will have load bearing capacity of 70 R IRC standard. Lighting on the bridge will be placed with 400 LEDs at a 1.344 kms as per international standards. The 4 lane bridge will have 3 meter footpath.
