AMC authorities visited Nagri hospital after eye sight problem to 15 patients

In Ahmedabad, almost 15 patients of AMC run CH Nagri Municipal Eye Hospital claimed loss of sight of one eye today after being given a follow up injection day before yesterday.

Ahmedabad Municipal health authorities were on run with incident, Municipal Commissioner D Thara visited the hospital and met patients and their relatives to know more about the case. Superintendent of the hospital have been called for treatment of affected patients. For checking eye patients, Retina Expert Dr Alay Banker was called after checking all affected patients said that 7 patients have got serious infection. Some patients were even operated during last night.

Ahmedabad Mayor Gautam Shah had also visited the hospital and assured of all the help to patients.

The hospital management however said that they have been administered other drugs and put under observation with visible sings of improvement. Nagri Hospital Doctor said that the 15 patients mostly old age diabetics and some stroke patients had been administered Avastin injection post operation of one eye for retina related problems yesterday. ‘They showed signs of infection with increased swelling today during follow up check up. We immediately adminstered them with other drugs and put them under observation. Though most of them were showing signs of improvement they will be re-checked tomorrow after the completion of the observation period of around 12 hours,’ said doctor.

Notably Avastin is the brand name for bevacizumab, a drug injected into the eye to slow vision loss in people who have “wet” age-related macular degeneration.
