As Ahmedabad prepare for becoming a host for the future Olympics a young sensational entrepreneur put Ahmedabad on the global league cricket arena.
Prem Thakkar, Director of the Thakkar Group and cricket enthusiast, made his debut as a cricket team owner this year. His exceptional management skills have been instrumental in leading his path to success in becoming an international league franchisee owner.
Mr. Thakkar acquired a team in Lanka Premier League 2024 for Galle Region named “Galle Marvels”. The team being its first season reached to the finals and became a runner up under his dynamic skills of identifying talents in forming the Galle team. This achievement not only marks a significant milestone for the team but also brings pride to Ahmedabad, showcasing Thakkar’s successful transition from business to cricket management.
The Galle Marvels boast an impressive roster of star international players, including Alex Hales, Tim Seifert, Maheesh Theekshana, Dwaine Pretorius, Jacob Duffy, Jeffrey Vandersay, Niroshan Dickwella (Captain), Zahoor Khan, and Janith Liyanage. Under the guidance of Head Coach Graham Ford, Assistant Coach Chamara Kapugedara, and Bowling & Fielding Coach Anton Roux, the team has shown exceptional prowess on the field.
The team players not only proved there strength and caliber in the league but also proved to be great player for Sri Lanka Cricket. Maheesh, Jeffrey and Janith also got spots and represented the National team in various formats.
Mr. Thakkar along with his passion for cricket also is involved with Equestrian Activities where in a Horse Ride was organized for enthusiast by him from his Stud Farm which also invited the Off Roading Group from Ahmedabad. He is also an active Shotgun Sportsmen and participated at various District, State and Pre-National competitions. During the recent District and State Event he even bagged a team medal.
