Today in Ahmedabad, Gujarat High Court has granted life imprisonment to 9 convicts in killing of 3 persons of Viramgam on 28th February 2002 in communal riots. Earlier, trial court out of 10 convicts had acquitted 1 person, which. was upheld by HC. Trial court had granted life imprisonment of 2 convicts which was upheld by HC. Out of 7 convicts, 3 were acquitted by trial court and punishment of 4 convicts was mitigated which was converted into life imprisonment by Gujarat HC.
