Ahmedabad: 3 doctors booked for negligence, arrested by Vastrapur Police

In Ahmedabad, 3 doctors of Sanjivani Hospital at Vastrapur, Dr Vinayak Bhomia, Dr Pankaj Patel and Dr Nagendra Mishra were booked by Vastrapur police for the death of a lady patient. The doctors have been charged with negligence during a surgery. Police is searching for the doctors to arrest them.

Inspector Vastrapur police station said, “We have registered an FIR after a medical committee of the Sola civil hospital headed by Dr Navrang Patel ruled that doctors involved in the operation and treatment of the patient, Godavari Goswami, had been negligent. Godavari had died hours after the surgery.”

According to the complaint lodged by Godavari’s son, Bhaveshgiri Goswami, he took his mother to Sanjivani Hospital for treatment of kidney stone in September 2014.

Inspector Shaikh added that the doctors had inserted a stent in the woman’s kidney to remove the stone and asked Bhaveshgiri to bring back his mother after one month for inspection.

“In October 2014, Bhaveshgiri returned with his mother for the inspection. He was told by Dr Pankaj Patel and Dr Nagendra Mishra about an acute infection in the urinary tract. The two doctors said she needed to be operated upon,” said Inspector Shaikh.

The police inspector said that Godavari was operated upon again on October 8, 2014, under the supervision of Dr Vinayak Bhomia and was shifted to the ward.

“However, her condition worsened after the operation and Godvari died the same day at 4:45 am.
