Preliminary Rounds of GSTTA’s GSL Table Tennis League kicks start with exciting matches
Ahmedabad, August 18, 2022: The table tennis matches of the GSL Table Tennis League organised by Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) began on a high note on Wednesday and the enthusiasm continued on Friday. The matches which were organised at the Arena by Trans Stadia in Kankaria area of Ahmedabad, concluded to a nail-biting finish in some of the cases as the best table tennis from different parts of the country players proved their might over a game.
On the opening day of GSL Table Tennis League organised by Gujarat State Table Tennis Association, matches of the first stage (Stage-I) were held between Tapti Tigers and Winasia Dazzlers; Shamal Squad – Surat and Topnotch Achievers; Bhayani Stars and R World Royals and Kataria Kings and Multimet Marvels.
Tapti Tigers captain, SFR Snehit was defeated by Winasia Dazzlers captain Soumyajit Ghosh, in a close shave over 11-10. In the battle between Topnotch Achievers and Shamal Squad – Surat Chitrax Bhatt of Topnotch defeated Shamal Squad captain, Manav Thakkar over 11-8. Bhayani Stars captain, Sourav Saha also defeated Dhairya Parmar of R World Royals in a close contest with 11-7. Similarly, another close match was between Kataria Kings Captain, Sudhanshu Grover defeated Multimet Marvels captain Harmeet Desai 11-9.
In the first session of the second day, Bhayani Stars contested Multimet Marvels; Kataria Kings played against Shamal Squad, Topnotch Achievers battled Tapti Tigers and Winasia Dazzlers played against R World Royals.
Some of the key players emerged gloriously victorious on the second day’s matches. For instance, Manush Shah of Topnotch achievers decimated Akshit Savla of Tapti Tigers in the opening match with an 11-2 game whereas Swastika Ghosh of Tapti Tigers won by a comfortable margin of 11-3 against her opponent Divya Gohil.
Sutirtha Mukherjee of Winasia Dazzlers clearly dominated and marched to victory with an 11-01 against Bhavya Jayswal of R World Royals. The women’s Double match between the two teams also finished at a close score of 11-10, with all four players delivering stellar performances.
On the other hand, certain matches indeed had a nail-biting finish leaving spectators with the edge-of-the-seat excitement. For instance, the men’s doubles match between Bhayani Stars and Multimet Marvels had an exciting finish with 10-11. Similarly, the matches between these teams among Sreeja Akula and Sagarika Mukherjee (7-11) and another between the captains Sourav Saha and Harmit Desai also kept the momentum running.
As players of Kataria Kings contested their counterparts from Surat’s Shamal Squad, Archana Kamath won both the matches in the women’s single category against Namna Jayswal and Nithyashree Mani both with a comfortably high margin at 11-6.
All in all, the two days concluded with great enthusiasm. The third day on Friday will also see the teams competing against one another and based on the points attained, the players will later play two rounds of qualifier rounds, eliminator and the final on Saturday – August 20.
