Gujarat CM’s high level review meeting on heavy forecast in state

Chief Minister seeks in-depth information on the work of the administration regarding disaster preparedness, precautionary measures
and gives necessary guidance

Gandhinagar, Wednesday: The Central Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of heavy rains in Gujarat. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected from July 7 to 10. Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel comprehensively reviews the precautionary measures taken by the state government and district bodies in this regard at a high level meeting in Gandhinagar.

The review meeting was convened by the Chief Minister in the presence of Revenue Minister Shri Rajendra Trivedi and Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Harsh Sanghvi and the situation of widespread rainfall in the state during the last 24 hours was discussed.

Informing about the present situation, the relief commissioner said that during the last 24 hours, 168 mm of rain has been recorded in Sutrapada taluka in Gir Somnath district and 159 mm in Kodinar taluka. Kalyanpur taluka of Devbhumi Ghwarka has received 153 mm of rainfall, Mangrol taluka of Junagadh 119 mm and Kadana taluka of Mahisagar 145 mm of rainfall.

According to the forecast of the meteorological department, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Gujarat from 07/07/2022 to 10/07/2022.

Therefore, CM took a detailed review of disaster preparedness of Gir Somnath, Junagadh, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Porbandar etc. districts. He gave necessary instructions for deployment of NDRF and SDRF in the respective districts. At present 9 NDRF teams are deployed in the state as follows- Gir Somnath-1, Navsari-1, Banaskantha-1, Rajkot-2, Valsad-1, Surat-1, Bhavnagar-1, Kutch-1. Details of deployment of SDRF’s 1-team in Porbandar district were also given in the meeting. In the review done by the Chief Minister regarding the current situation regarding irrigation and drinking water in the state, it was stated that, the current water storage in Sardar sarovar reservoir is 143919 mcft. It is 43.08% of the total storage capacity.

Not only that, water storage in 206 reservoirs of the state is 1,89,345 MCFT which is 33.92% of the total storage capacity. At present, 01 reservoir is on High Alert, 01 reservoir on Alert and 01 reservoir on Warning in the state.

According to the current monsoon in the state, approximately 30,20,616 hectares of kharif crops have been planted in the current year till 04/07/2022. The details were given by senior officials of the agriculture department.

Manorama Mohanty, Director, Gujarat Meteorological Department, also gave details using a presentation of the areas which are likely to receive more rains in the coming days.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Kailashnathan, Chief Secretary Shri Pankaj Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Shri Rajkumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department Shri Kamal Dayani as well as Agriculture-Co-operation, Food-Civil Supplies and consumer affairs department, Irrigation, Road-Building, Urban Development and Senior Secretaries-Officers of GSDMA, NDRF.
