Today’s July 12th is celebrated as Guru Purnima on account of Teacher student, Sage disciple relation,bonding between a sage and his guru,tradition carried out since Vedas time. Sri Vyasa is widely known for transforming Veda into Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Atharva Veda and Sama Veda. Sage Vyasa is also authored 18 Puranas, Mahabharata, and Srimad Bhagavatam. Disciples have carried on his legacy of scholarship to this day. Students keep fast or take a vow of silence to purify the mind, body, and soul. They visit temples and perform puja, bhajan/kirtan and have a feast in honour of sage Vyasa as well as their local gurus and teachers, they bow to their guru and seek blessings.
