Former Gujarat Chief Minister Madhav Singh Solanki has passed away tragically. Madhav Singh Solanki breathed his last at his residence at the age of 94. He was born on July 30, 1927. Madhavsinh was father of Gujarat Congress leader Bharatsinh Solanki. Former Chief Minister Madhavsinh has been instrumental in development of the state.
Bharatsinh Solanki will return from the US tomorrow, Sunday morning, after which Madhavsinh Solanki’s funeral will be held at 4 pm. Delhi senior leader will reach Gandhinagar tomorrow to pay tribute to Madhavsinh.
Madhavsinh Solanki has been Chief Minister of Gujarat four times. He became the CM of Gujarat during 1973-1975-1982-1985. Madhavsinh was first made the Chief Minister after the removal of the President Rule in 1976. During this time he was the Chief Minister from 24-12-1976 to 10-04-1977. After winning the Gujarat Assembly elections in 1980, Congress party came to power again and on June 7, 1980, Madhavsinh became the Chief Minister for the second time, holding office till March 10, 1985. He became Chief Minister for the third time on March 11, 1985, winning the by-elections. He later resigned on July 6, 1985. Madhavsinh was Chief Minister for the fourth time from December 10, 1989 to March 4, 1990.
Madhavsinh Solanki launched the ‘Madhyahan Bhojan’ (Mid Day Meal) scheme for small kids.During the reign of Madhavsinh Solanki, reforms like industry, electricity, irrigation, education, girls education, free education are believed to have given much impetus to the development of Gujarat.
