143rd Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad at Jagannath temple premises

Today on 23rd June Ashadhi Beej Lord Jagannath’s 143rd Rath Yatra was finally taken out in Lord Jagannath Temple premises with a few devotees.

Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani performed the Pahind ritual at the Jagannathji Temple in Ahmedabad. A symbolic procession was held at the Jagannathji Temple early today, after much deliberation between the temple authorities and top police officials.

This time in Ahmedabad city, for the first time in history Lord Jagannath’s 143rd Rath Yatra was taken out due to Covid-19 pandemic in a very simple manner.

PIL was made in Gujarat High Court on Rath Yatra procession in Ahmedabad by applicant from Maternal uncle side of Saraspur.

Jagannath Mandir Trust, the organiser, had sought permission for the event from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and police commissioner through a letter dated May 18. However, no decision was taken by them. While deciding the PIL on June 20, the High Court sought an explanation from the government for this “inaction.” As a matter of fact, the state government didn’t take any decision till Monday evening when the Supreme Court allowed Rath Yatra in Puri.
