Today in an important judgement on the constitutional validity of Aadhaar , Supreme Court says minimal demographic and biometric data of citizens are collected by the UIDAI for Aadhaar enrolment. Aadhaar number given to a person is unique & can’t go to any other person. Court struck down section 57 of Aadhar Act
Apex court feels that Aadhaar does not violate privacy. Court says No linkage of Aadhaar with bank acoounts. Individuals or corporate cannot collect Aadhar data. How Aadhaar to be used during filing of Income Tax returns and PAN card related information.
The Supreme Court upheld the constitutional validity of Aadhaar and said that it empowers the marginalised sections of the society. However, it ruled that the Aadhaar is not mandatory for school admissions and mobile phone, as it is unconstitutional.
