In IPL 7 tournament’s first Qualifier round 1, Kolkata Knight Riders have already secured their position in finals. KKR in a match against KXIP, Kings XI Punjab won the toss and decided to bowl first. KKR put up a fighting total of 163 for 8 on their home ground, and with a forecast for thunderstorms at some stage and a slow outfield, it proved to be a winning total. Robin Uthappa continued his good run with the bat, top-scoring with 42 off 30 deliveries. Barring skipper Gautam Gambhir (1 run off 3 balls), every other batsman chipped in with 17 to 21 runs, and late flourish by Piyush Chawla (17 off 9 deliveries) saw the home team impose a 160+ run target for the visitors. KXIP got into trouble from the word go, losing Virender Sehwag (2 runs off 3 balls) on the first ball of the second over. Even as Manan Vohra (26 off 19) and Wriddhiman Saha (35 off 31) stabilised the innings a bit, the team was in dire trouble at the score of 87 for 6 in 13.3 overs. KXIP surrendered at 138 for 8.
