Supreme Court of India has issued guidelines to Gujarat government on implementing HSRP the High Security Registration Plate in 2012.

Till now 50 lakh vehicles have been fixed with HSRP number plates. In Gujarat at 35 RTOs Regional Transport Offices this facility of affixing HSRP number plates is available.

In Ahmedabad, due to time needed to prepare such number plates and limited infrastructure, affixing HSRP number plates activity has been outsourced.
