On Wednesday, In Ahmedabad, hawkers from Nehrunagar area moves high court to direct the civic authorities to allocate them space on the western side of the Sabarmati Riverfront, and not on the east side of the river. Earlier this year, Gujarat HC permitted 158 hawkers from Nehrunagar to shift to Gurjari Bazaar on the riverfront to carry out their businesses from Monday to Saturday. While this arrangement is yet to take place, the hawkers’ association moved the HC to raise the issue that there were an equal number of vendors who have becomeĀ jobless, because their names have not been included in the list prepared by the authorities. They submitted before the court that while Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation claimed that it received representation from 40 such persons to add their names in the list, as many as 256 hawkers had tendered their affidavits to AMC officials in this regard. The HC has asked AMC officials to reply on the matter before further hearing takes place next week.
