Today in Gandhinagar, Gujarat Chief Minister reviewed progress of SAUNI project with statte officials through a presentaion. SAUNI project, Saurashtra Avtaran Narmada Irrigation Yojna, which interlinks 115 reservoirs of Saurashtra region. The presentation was made by Narmada Water Resources and Kalpasar Department of Gujarat Government.
SAUNI project will prove to be a Sanjivani for solution to water related issues of Saurashtra region and Gujarat.
Saurashtra-Narmada Avtaran Irrigation Yojana (SauniYojana) that has been initiated by the Government of Gujarat to divert excess over-flowing flood water of Narmada River. Excess over-flowing flood water of Narmada River will be brought to Dholidhaja Dam near Surendra Nagar. It will be distributed to 115 reservoirs of seven districts of Saurashtra through 1,115 km long 4 link canals. 10 Dams like Matchu, Aaji and Demi will be provided with Narmada waters . This will benefit 10,22,589 acres of land for irrigation from Morbi, Dhrol, Vankaner and Rajkot. The scope of this project includes laying of 40.75 km MS Pipeline of 3000 mm diameter with plate thickness of 17.5 mm apart from 13,475 m3/hr pumping station at Chainage.
