Governor of Gujarat has cleared the controversial Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GCTOC) Bill (2015) and sent it to Ministry of Home Affairs for Presidential assent.
On 18th April a delegation from Gujarat Jan Andolan had met Governor of Gujarat and submitted a memorandum urging him not to accord assent to the aforementioned bill. The GCTOC is violative of basic principles of our constitution namely democracy, human rights and the rule of law and also violative of the basic principles of criminal law of any civilised country.
Now, Guj Jan Andolan will seek an appointment of his excellency President of India to submit a memorandum not to accord assent to the GCTOC bill 2015.
Gujarat Jan Andolan is an informal body formed by various civil rights and voluntary organisations working in the field of protection of human rights and other statutory rights of the citizens.
