In present violence in Syria, 75 Indian nationals have been evacuated from the country. They crossed to Lebanon and will return to India in the first available commercial flight to India. The evacuation was coordinated by the embassies of India in Damascus and Beirut after an assessment of the security situation and requests from Indian nationals in Syria.
The evacuees included 44 ‘zaireen’ from Jammu & Kashmir who were stranded at Saida Zainab, according to MEA Ministry of External Affairs sources.
There was a dramatic turn of events after President Bashar al-Assad fled o Russia and rebel forces claimed control of the capital, Damascus.
