24 newborn babies death in Civil hospital: Congress calls it negligence of BJP government
Today in Ahmedabad, 3 more newborn babies died in Civil Hospital.
Death toll touches 24 in last week.
Civil hospital lacks basic facilities blames Gujarat Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil on death of newborn babies.
Shaktisinh clarified that I have personally checked that there are no CCTVs installed in the hospital in Neonatal ICU Ward. Staff has been not imparted Training. In the issue, investigating officer was pressurized to give clean chit is very shocking added Gohil.
After visit by Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, enquiry committee was formed who gave clean chit to the staff.
Gujarat : 18 newborn died in ICU at Civil hospital in Ahmedabad in 3 days
In a heart-wrenching incident,as per Preliminary information on Report of Newborn Deaths in Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad. The report shows 18 deaths of newborns are over last 3 days which includes 9 deaths in the date on 28 October 17 from 12 am, Of these 6 deaths are after 6 am on yesterday.
total 9 newborn babies died in Government Civil hospital of Ahmedabad since midnight till today. 5 newborn babies were referred from Lunavada, Surendranagar, Mansa, Viramgam and Himmatnagar under critical condition such as severe birth asphyxia, extreme preterm with birth weight 1.1 kg (usual 2.5 kg), Hyaline Membrane disease, Septicemia.
5 babies were pre-maturely born and kept on ventilaor as many doctors in private hospitals were on vacation due to Diwali festival. Pre-mature babies had lung infection due to which they died during treatment.
All 9 babies died on ventilator. As per doctors, mal nutrition to be blamed for the incident.
3 babies born at Civil had severe birth asphyxia and one had Meconium Aspiration syndrome. All doctors and nurses were on duty in neonatal ICU intensive care unit. The unit has capacity of 100 beds. It is a prime referral centre of Gujarat.
The Neonatal ICU at Civil Hospital Ahmedabad has with all modern facilities such as ventilator care, exchange transfusion, neonatal resuscitation, administration of surfactants, multi-organ failure care. Staff including Senior professors, junior residents and adequate number of staff nurses are on duty 24×7 in this unit.
A Committee is constituted under Dr R K Dixit, Deputy Director, Medical Education with senior doctors from pediatrics and obstetric and gynecology from other medical college hospitals to inquire into circumstances and causes of death and suggest future areas of improvement. Hospital management is on run due to shocking incident. Entire hospital has been put on alert. Police has been called at hospital for security of medical staff and to avoid untoward incident by parents or family of babies.
Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot and Shaktisinh Gohil expressed concern over the tragedy.
