Today in Gandhinagar it was revealed that in last 5 years 1734 people have made applications for religious conversion. Out of 1734 applications received 887 applications were granted permission which includes 47 people from Ahmedabad, 515 from Surat, 338 from Rajkot and 325 from Porbandar. Applications for religious conversions were made by 56 Muslims, 51 Christians, 2 Parsis in addition to Hindus.
The fact and figures on religious conversions in state came to light against question by Tejeshree Patel, MLA of Viramgam in Gujarat Assembly to state home department.
In adivasi areas applications for adoption of Christianity and Buddhist religion also came up during questioning.
