146th Birth Anniversary of Gandhiji celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti

October 2 is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti in India to mark the occasion of the birthday of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the “Father of the Nation”. Title is not officially declared. The non-cooperation movement was significant phase of the Indian independence movement from British rule. It was led by Mahatma Gandhi and was supported by the Indian National Congress. Gandhi started the non-cooperation movement after the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. It aimed to resist British rule in India through nonviolent means.

Gandhi Jayanti is marked by prayer services and tributes all over India, especially at Raj Ghat, Gandhi’s memorial in New Delhi where he was cremated.

Many national leaders including Prime Minister, President, Vice President and Chief Minister of the state pay tribute to Gandhiji on 146th Birth Anniversary today.

In Ahmedabad city also Gandhian followers and other leaders paid tribute to Gandhiji at Gandhi Ashram. People visit Gandhi Ashram to pay tribute to Gandhiji on this day.
